Facts

The lake was completed in 1972 under the Watershed Restoration and Flood Protection Act for flood control and as a recreational facility and public drinking supply for Jim Thorpe.

The Park is approximately 2500 acres.

There are 129 campsites, 2 group sites, and 12 cabins available for rent.

Lake is approximately 2.8 miles long and roughly 320 acres. The average width is 1400’ or a little over a ¼ mile. Average depth is 25’ with depths reaching up to 45’.

Maps showing the depth and contouring of the lake are available at the park office for a $3.00 fee.

Fish in the lake include: catfish, chain pickerel, muskie, large & small mouth bass, perch, bluegill, crappie, walleye, and some trout (Lake at one time was stocked with trout).

The PA Fish & Boat Commission stocks the lake and determines numbers, species, and dates of stockings. Trout are no longer stocked in the lake. However, Mauch Chunk Creek is stocked with brook and rainbow trout.

Park is open to hunting except within all posted safety zones, beach area, picnic area, and camping area. PA Game Commission regulations apply. The park is stocked with ring-necked pheasant.

Trapping is permitted by permit only. PA Game Commission seasons, limits, and regulations apply.
